5 Tips for Planning an Unforgettable Birthday Party

Get out the balloons and streamers—it’s party time! Your child’s birthday parties are often some of the happiest days of their lives. But party planning can be overwhelming, even for the most organized parent! Use this guide to help you remember every little detail for their extra-special day.

Tip 1: Pick the Perfect Space

Choose a party venue that coordinates with the theme. For example, if your little one wants a jungle theme, a backyard or park will add greenery and simplify decorating. Also, make sure that your space will accommodate the number of guests on the guest list, and that there’s plenty of room for any activities you have planned!

Tip 2: Make a To-Do List

Stay organized in the months, weeks, and days leading up to the big event with a to-do list! Break it out by categories, such as “To Buy” (for party supplies and food) or “To Reserve” (for venues or entertainers). Give yourself deadlines for each item to ensure that you stay on track.

Tip 3: Keep Them Busy

Plan a variety of fun activities for the day of! Different children enjoy different things, so include both physical activities, such as a bounce house or obstacle course, and creative activities, such as crafts or coloring.

Tip 4: Have a Backup Plan

Even the best laid plans can sometimes be interrupted by surprise circumstances. Be sure to note any of the guests’ dietary concerns, and set aside allergen-free food for them, so that no one goes hungry. If you’re planning an outdoor party, keep an eye on the weather and have a secondary location planned out, or make sure that there’s a sheltered area nearby.
